The choices that carry the weight are glass, frame grade and the track. A large unshaded glass span lets in heat and glare, so tinted or coated glazing cuts west-sun gain; tempered glass is specified where breakage is a safety risk and laminated where security or a stormy, exposed elevation matters. Wide spans and exposed openings take a heavier-grade frame with deeper sections so the panels stay rigid and the rollers run true. A sliding sill has a drainage channel and weep holes that let water exit the track, and we set those correctly and specify seals for how exposed the opening is. We don't claim any door is waterproof — driving rain at an exposed elevation is demanding — but a properly drained track, the right glass and clear weep holes keep water managed.
