After handover
Caring for your ALUMAX home
Everything here is simple and takes minutes. Kept up, it holds the finish and keeps your warranty intact — the guide handed over on completion, in full.
Everyday care
A few habits keep the whole home looking new and keep your warranty intact.
- Wipe spills promptly — water is the one thing every finish dislikes if it is left to sit.
- Clean with a soft, damp cloth and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive pads, scouring powder and strong solvents.
- Keep rooms ventilated. Sarawak humidity is the main stress on any cabinet; airflow is the simplest defence.
- Keep wet-zone seals intact — the silicone at sinks, hobs and splashbacks is what keeps water out of the structure.
- Do not force a door, drawer or mechanism that has gone stiff. Tell us — an early adjustment is a quick fix.
Aluminium in wet zones
Where water is a daily fact — sink base, wet kitchen, bathroom, laundry — the carcass is aluminium, not board.
- Aluminium does not absorb water the way a wood-based core can, but it still needs its seals maintained. It is wet-zone suitable, not indestructible.
- Only ever use a neutral-cure silicone near aluminium if you reseal a joint yourself — acid-cure sealant corrodes aluminium and is never used on our work.
Boards, fronts and P6
Dry-zone carcasses and most fronts are moisture-resistant board.
- Board resists humidity but is not waterproof — keep standing water off it and wipe edges dry.
- No board edge should ever meet water. If you see a lifting or swollen edge, contact us before it spreads.
Glass and mirrors
Shower screens, balustrades and glass fronts are tempered.
- Squeegee shower glass after use and wipe the seals — it keeps limescale off and the seal working.
- Tempered glass is impact-resistant, not unbreakable. Avoid knocks to edges and corners, which is where glass is weakest.
Hardware — hinges, runners, mechanisms
The moving parts are the parts that get used most.
- Keep hinges, runners and tracks clean and free of grit; a dry cloth is usually enough.
- Do not overload drawers and lift-up doors beyond their rating. Overloading is the most common cause of a mechanism failing early.
- Soft-close and lift mechanisms can be adjusted — if one stops holding position, that is a service call, not a replacement.
By room and product
The specific care for each thing we installed. Only the items on your job apply.
Kitchen Cabinet Systems
Wipe spills and keep sink-zone seals intact. The board resists humidity but isn’t waterproof — wet zones use aluminium, and every edge is sealed.
Wet Kitchen / Aluminium Cabinets
Aluminium structures don’t absorb water like wood-based cores — wet-zone suitable when properly specified, installed and maintained. Not a blanket ‘waterproof’ claim.
Wardrobe Storage Systems
Keep rooms ventilated, avoid storing damp items, and wipe internal surfaces periodically to limit humidity build-up.
Living Room & TV Storage
Ventilate AV cavities, dust display zones and clean fronts with a soft damp cloth.
Bathroom Vanity Systems
Keep the area ventilated, wipe standing water and maintain seals. Wood-based board is not for direct wet-zone exposure — that’s where aluminium is specified.
Aluminium Doors & Windows
Clean tracks and frames, keep drainage paths clear and service hardware as needed. Quoted by opening size, frame system, glass type, hardware, site access and installation condition.
SPC Flooring
Sweep and damp-mop, and wipe spills promptly. SPC resists moisture and everyday wear but is not indestructible — use felt pads under furniture and avoid dragging heavy loads.
WPC Fluted Wall Panel
Dust and wipe with a soft damp cloth. WPC tolerates interior humidity better than solid timber, but it is an interior finish — keep it off constantly-wet walls and away from direct heat.
PROWORKS Office Systems by ALUMAX
Clean surfaces regularly, manage cable loads and service drawers and runners under heavy use.
Glass Works — Shower Screens, Balustrades & Architectural Glass
Squeegee shower glass after use and wipe the seals; keep balustrade fixings and hinges clean and serviced. Tempered glass is impact-resistant, not unbreakable — we specify the rating and fixing for the use, not a zero-risk claim.
What keeps your warranty
Following this guide is part of your cover. The warranty does not cover damage from these, so they are worth avoiding.
- Misuse or overloading beyond rated capacity
- Unauthorised modification
- Water exposure beyond the material’s specified zone
- External leakage or building defects from other trades
- Failure to maintain (seals, ventilation, cleaning)
- Normal wear and tear
- Building movement or hidden leakage
- Pest damage where the material is not specified as pest-resistant
- Supplier-excluded items
Full terms are on the warranty page.
We check in with you
You are not on your own after handover. The first year has a set rhythm.
- Day 1Handover & sign-offWe walk through it together, log any snags, and hand over the care guide. Warranty activates on sign-off.
- Day 7Settling-in checkA quick message once you’ve used it for a week — we confirm everything opens, closes and drains as it should.
- Day 30First-month reviewHinges, runners and seals re-checked; any minor adjustments made while everything is still fresh.
- Month 6Mid-warranty check-inSeals, alignment and wet-zone condition reviewed — the point where a humidity issue would first show.
- Year 1Annual reviewWarranty status confirmed, a maintenance refresh, and anything under cover put right.
Something not right?
Do not force it. Tell us early — most issues are a quick adjustment, and we would rather hear about it now. Keep your finish and hardware codes handy for re-ordering.
