A wardrobe carried on aluminium uprights rather than on a boxed carcass. Shelves and rails clamp to the posts, so the run has a structural member behind every span and the layout can be changed later without rebuilding. For airflow and for changing the layout later, yes — nothing boarded moves as freely, and aluminium does not swell if the room gets damp or feed termites. For concealment and for the lowest price on a straightforward run, a boarded wardrobe is still the sensible answer, and we quote both. No. The framed and floor-to-ceiling systems both take doors — solid or aluminium-framed glass. Usually, but the clear height is measured to the lowest obstruction rather than to the slab — Sarawak ceilings often carry a plaster drop, a cornice, a beam or aircon trunking. This is the format where that matters most, because there is no gap above to absorb a difference. I like the glass showroom look, but will it look messy if my clothes are not perfectly organised?+
That is the usual worry, and the glass finish is what solves it. A tinted or fluted front — fumé grey, titanium bronze or reeded glass — reads as a surface rather than a window, so the run looks unified without putting every hanger on display. The other half is layout: glass to the hanging and display bays, solid aluminium drawer banks for everything that is never going to be folded neatly. Will a fully enclosed floor-to-ceiling wardrobe trap moisture in Sarawak's humidity?+
The structure will not add to it: the uprights are aluminium and the fronts are glass, so unlike a plywood or MDF carcass there is nothing in the wardrobe itself that takes up moisture from the air, swells, or carries that musty smell. But an enclosed run is still an enclosed space, and your clothes and ordinary house dust are organic — so in this climate any sealed box benefits from air. That is why we ask how the room is ventilated before recommending fronts, why the open and framed systems exist, and why on a room that is not air-conditioned we would specify open or louvred detailing at the shoe zone rather than sell you a sealed wall.
Are floor-to-ceiling glass doors safe with children in the house?+
The glass is tempered safety glass at 5 or 8 mm. Tempered glass is made to fail safely: if it is broken it granulates into blunt pieces rather than long shards. The sliding track carries an anti-jump mechanism so a leaf cannot be lifted off it, and both sliding and swing fronts run on soft-close damping, so a door pushed hard slows itself and closes quietly instead of slamming. The damping is a mechanism, not a guarantee — keep fingers clear of a closing door as you would with any wardrobe.
My ceiling is not perfectly level and I do not know how to plan the inside. How does that work?+
Neither is a problem you have to solve. We measure on site and set the run out to the lowest real obstruction rather than to the slab, and the uprights are tension-mounted between floor and ceiling, so a run can be brought plumb and level without cutting into the slab. For the inside — how many hanging bays, how much folded, where the drawers go and whether a separately quoted lighting add-on is wanted — ELS can draw the layout with you before anything is manufactured, which is the point at which changes are free.
